Building

The agritourism "Le Querce del Vareglio" is a farmhouse immersed in 30 hectares of estate. It was restored in 2004 to offer an agritourism with swimming pool and a restaurant. During the restoration work, the original architectural elements were preserved, as symbols of the sobriety and simplicity that still characterise Langhe and Roero.

The agritourism has a winery called tenuta “Le Querce del Vareglio”, which produces excellent wines of Roero.

The estate offers horseback riding, admiring exciting landscapes, vineyards and orchards that are enough to fascinate anyone.

Estate

The agritourism is immersed in its 30 hectares of estate. The paths stretch for 5 kilometres within the park: you can go  horseback riding, riding a bike,  walking through vineyards, orchards and woods.
The agritourism maintains its traditional role of farmhouse: the vineyard gives high quality grapes, the orchard offers the goodness of fruits in the summer – plums, cherries and peaches. The vegetables garden produces the vegetables that our chef will skillfully use in the kitchen.

The park is home to our animals: horses, cows and goats always a main attraction for kids and adults.

Swimming Pool

The garden is the ideal place to enjoy a warm and relaxing summer day: an authentic oasis immersed in nature, giving you the peace and serenity of an holiday in the hills.

The swimming pool and the spacious solarium are open to agritourism guests, and offer an exceptional view of the valley.

Mountain bike

For nature lovers it is possible to go mountain biking, in the heart of the protected naturalistic area called Parco delle Rocche . Bicycles are available for free for agritourism guests.

Exciting landscapes, the richness of fauna and flora and of the vineyards and orchards that supply their precious products to the agritourism are enough to fascinate anyone.

A series of trails in the Roero region, well connected with the paths of the estate, are now open, and this gives the possibility to admire the beauty of the territory walking or riding a bike.

History

The farmhouse dates back to the late 1600s, built by a wealthy notary named Toppino. This explains the existence of such a luxurious farmhouse in a time of rather modest living conditions.
The lands of the estate became famous in the past thanks to the discovery of the Sal Canale, a natural medicine known for its laxative effects. This dates back to 1740 when the Aloi Family, the pharmacists in Canale d'Alba, during one of their investigations in search of medicinal herbs, came across a whitish salt vein. After several experiments, this compound started to be produced and sold. In 1761 it received a 500 lire prize from King Charles Emmanuel. Sal Canale is still used today in medicine, agriculture and botany.
From 1931 to 1948, the farmhouse hosted a family of tenant farmers and in 1933 one of our partners was born in that house, Bartolomeo Berrino.

In 2004 we decided to restore the building, aiming to preserve the beauty of the original 17th-century architectural elements, such as the brick vaults and beams.

Langhe and Roero

The suggestive landscape and the peace of these places, amidst paths, woods and hills covered in vineyards, is enough to fascinate anyone.

The Roero is situated on the left of the Tanaro river. It offers places where uncontaminated nature still dominates. One of them is the Rocche, deep rifts caused by the erosion of the Tanaro river.
The sandy walls of the hills form imposing natural backdrops and fascinating peaks.

"Langhe" is the name of the historical region between the province of Cuneo and of Asti, famous for its hills and its great food and wine culture. Its typical products, such as the renowned red wines and the prestigious White Truffle of Alba, has made this area known all over the world.
